Vintage Late 1910s Black Silk Satin Dress

The Black Velvet Emporium

There's some serious Downton Abbey vibes going on here. Latest 1910s, earliest 1920s black silk satin dress with tan lace details.   Gorgeous!  Wrap style with two separate layers. The bottom layer is where the length comes from. It consists of a tan silk bodice attached to the black pleated ruffle you see at the very bottom. There is a lace front also sewn to said bodice at one corner. The other corner attaches via snaps to the inside of the top layer of the dress. (It makes a lot more sense once you see it in person, trust me). The top layer of the dress has that second shorter pleated ruffle above the first. It also has a scalloped ruffle along the neckline smocking at the sides, long sleeves ending in more scallops and trimmed with more beige lace peeking out, and it has ties that wrap round the body and tie at the side. Its utterly stunning and a flexible size too.

Great vintage condition overall but the vast majority of this is excellent its just one part that in poor shape. I can't put it higher than that because the ivory bodice portion of the under layer is literally disintegrating. It wont last, but its also quite unnecessary as its the only part not seen when this is put together. I would frankly remove it and simply add a new bodice or ( if it were me) sew the under skirt ruffle to the top layer at the bottom ( so you'd step into it before wrapping it) and just sue the snaps to attach that lace front to the top layer as well. If I were a better seamstress I'd do it but my skills are lacking so I'm afraid that's up to you. Other than that its really quite fantastic. The black silk satin parts are darn near perfect. The lace front has some foxing, but is structurally fine. The only real issue with the top layer is that there were buttons at one hip that are missing. I don't have period correct buttons that fit so I have left it as is since there is some work needed here anyway. That said, I do have some gold tone embossed buttons that might suit and would be happy to sew them on for you if you like. (TL:DR the bodice of the underlayer is shot and should be replaced and its got some missing buttons and foxing on the lace. Otherwise awesome!)  Priced accordingly.

Measurements when lying flat. Doubled at bust, waist and hip.

Because of the shape and construction of this ( wrap), measurements are extremely fluid. When I snap it up the way it is now I get the following, but do remember that you can tighten it or loosen it quite a bit either way to suit you. If you want/need a specific number please don't hesitate to reach out.
Armpit to armpit across bust: 46"
Waist:: Free
Hips: Free
Shoulder to bottom hem of top layer: 38" to bottom layer 46"
