Show stopping black full skirt from the 50s, most likely a Mexican souvenir skirt. Luscious black cotton velvet embroidered with purple roses and blue horizontal pinstripes, and embellished with sequin trim and a gorgeous purple flloral jacquard ribbon. There is a line of black lace trim round the bottom hem, but I suspect this had been turned up and hemmed a few inches shorter and the lace was the trim for that. At some point someone let out that hem to give us this. You could turn it back up if you like, or leave it as is as it's quite pretty this way too. Full skirt but not quite a full circle, drop waisted too. Has one hook and eye at the top of the waistband and a nylon zipper which is almost certainly not the original zipper. The wide drop waist area is lined in ivory muslin, and there is a pellon lining inside the area where the ribbon and sequins are. No label. Extra large size, I'd say.
Excellent vintage condition. The only thing worth noting, apart from the let down hem as mentioned above is that at one point someone had also taken this in on the sides a bit. Thats been let out and there are some minor lines about 3 or 4 inches long in the velvet at the waist from where those darts were.
Measurements when lying flat. Doubled at waist and hip.
Hip: where the drop waist line is 42" the rest is full.
Waist to bottom hem: 31"

I do my utmost best to list any issues, but signs of wear should be expected, and there are occasionally small things I won't deem worthy of note.
