Vintage 1800s Antique Edwardian Victorian Mail Holder
Absolutely fantastic Victorian mail holder, circa late 1800s. These were used to hold mail, magazines and other correspondence out of sight until they could be dealt with. There is a "secret" compartment that pulls forward on chains to access the documents behind it, and then pushes back into the whole ensemble when not in use so as to look like any other wall décor. They're hard to find now and I've been tempted many times to keep this for myself so get it before I change my mind. This one features a dark, dark grey, near black carved wood frame. The print in the front is behind glass. It may or may not be the original image that was in here but my instincts say probably not as I imagine it would have been an original painting or something more along those lines back then. But whether original or not, it is still quite old, definitely vintage, in its own right. I have not wanted to remove it from the frame to inspect it for more details as I don't wish to potentially damage anything. Larger than others I've seen, measures about 17" high and 21.5" wide. Also quite heavy. Shipping will reflect this. Excellent vintage condition. There are some minor scuffs and scratches to the frame that only add to its charm. One of the hooks on the chain tends to come la little loose.
Please note: This is a vintage, preworn and/or preloved item, and as such is one of a kind and not eligible for returns or refunds. I do my utmost best to list any issues, but signs of wear should be expected, and there are occasionally small things I won't deem worthy of note. Please feel free to send me a missive with any questions. I'm truly happy to help in any way possible and I'm always up for a chat. Any accessories shown, including crinolines, are for display only, not included unless otherwise stated.
