Vintage 1940s 1950s Black Velvet Opera Coat, Bergdorf Goodman New York
This is a magnificent full length opera coat from about the 1940s or 50s in black silk velvet. Incredible shaped collar! Slightly puffed shoulders, though no shoulder pads. Simple clean lines with no front closure. Fully lined in black satin. Label reads: Bergdorf Goodman Fifth Avenue at 58th Street. Small to smaller medium I'd say.
Excellent vintage condition. The exterior is lovely. I cant find a thing to note except for some wear to the velvet ( small holes and worn areas) round the inner part of the collar ( not on the fancy part) and a few near the hem. The lining has a few small areas of very mild fade and there is a stitching repair to one seam in the shoulder inside as well. The only real thing to note is that there is a layer of wool in between the velvet and the satin. There are some moth holes in that, but obviously, unless you turn the coat really inside out and then lift up the lining and really get into its guts, you can't see those. But they're there so thought I'd mention it. This is just stunning, if it was a hair bigger, I'd be keeping it for myself.
Measurements when lying flat. Doubled at bust, waist and hip this is an open front so theres some play to these measurements. Shoulder to shoulder: 15" Armpit to armpit across bust: 44" Waist: loose Hips: loose Shoulder to bottom hem: 54"

I do my utmost best to list any issues, but signs of wear should be expected, and there are occasionally small things I won't deem worthy of note.
