Lovely black silk reticule type purse. Victorian or perhaps Edwardian. Possibly for mourning. Trimmed in black pleated silk ruffle with what was once a drawstring closure at the top. It has black satin ribbons for a strap that I expect are not original but are still quite vintage themselves. Inside is lined in black cotton. There is just the one main compartment.
Approx 10" at the widest including ruffle trim and 10" tall not including strap. I'm dating this to sometime very early 1900s, possibly late 1800s.
Please see condition below.
Fair to good vintage condition. Something this old and special is harder for me to classify as I expect more issues. The silk exterior is shattering, more so on one side than the other. The shattering has meant that the drawstring has come away as the fabric tunnel for it has worn. That said, the cotton inside is in fine condition, no issues at all, and the satin ribbons as well. Someone could use this due to those still being strong, but it'd need to very gently as the silk is fragile. So perhaps for a photo shoot or collection or as a pattern. Its possible the silk could be stabilized but my seamstress skills are mediocre at best so I wont promise it. I'm recommending it for pattern, or study or collection. Its priced as such and is As Is.
Please note: These are vintage, preworn and/or preloved items. I do my utmost best to list any issues, but signs of wear should be expected, and there are occasionally small things I won't deem worthy of note. Please feel free to send me a missive with any questions. I'm truly happy to help in any way possible and I'm always up for a chat. Any accessories shown, including crinolines, are for display only, not included unless otherwise stated.
