Stunning needlepoint ( point de Beauvais to be specific) purse. Black with a pattern of flowers in pale pinks, golds and greens. There are a lot of flowers on the front but on the back just a few. It has a gold tone clasp and the actual clasp and frame is just as lovely as the bag. Inside is lined in gold silk. There is the one main compartment and a small pocket perfect for a lipstick or keys. Oh by the way, to open it, you press down on the round clasp and it pops it open.
Approx 7" at the widest and 6" tall not including chain. I'm dating this to sometime very early 1900s, possibly late 1800s, and probably French made.
Please see condition below.
Fair to good vintage condition. Something this old and special is harder for me to classify as I expect more issues. But here we are. This is silk and sections of it are shattering, especially on the back side and the interior. And realy the interior is fairly finished. That said, the folds in the black exterior tend to hide the worst of the disintegration, so while I don't know that I'd recommend this too much for actual use, it would be stunning as a display object, or for a pattern or study. The frame and clasp are in good working order and excellent condition generally. Priced accordingly, would be much higher if in better condition.
Please note: These are vintage, preworn and/or preloved items. I do my utmost best to list any issues, but signs of wear should be expected, and there are occasionally small things I won't deem worthy of note. Please feel free to send me a missive with any questions. I'm truly happy to help in any way possible and I'm always up for a chat. Any accessories shown, including crinolines, are for display only, not included unless otherwise stated.
