Stunning 1930s gown in the richest deepest dark green velvet. Simple and classic lines. Blousy bodice with a high ruched neckline and smocking at both shoulders. Long incredible bishop sleeves ending in a narrow long cuff embellished with decorative buttons and then with snaps at the wrist. A single hook and eye at the keyhole shape back. Higher waist line and then the skirt I believe is cut on the bias. No label but you can see where one as cut away at some point. This does have some issues, please read below.
Great to good vintage condition. This is absolutely gorgeous obviously and that velvet is to die for! That said, it was used as a costume for a portion of it life ( though its not originally intended as one) and its seen some life. There are some holes along the bottom hem, which are low enough that if one re-hemmed it they would disappear. One of the sleeves has a fairly significant tear near the end and the other sleeve has a section of seam that needs to be resewn and a missing button. There is a pull at the bottom of the keyhole opening in the back and I did spot some wear to one armpit that will need to be reinforced. There are a couple other very minor flaws such as seams that need a few stitches or pinhead sized holes This is priced accordingly, as is. I believe that someone with more than my very meagre skills could bring this back to life and it would be glorious! The fabric is still quite strong other than those damaged spots and the vast majority of it is in very good shape. The sleeves alone and the velvet is worth it. It would also of course, be perfect for pattern, study, display or upcycling.
Measurements when lying flat.
Bust: 38" ish Its a high waist with dolman sleeves so bear in mind if its off by a little.
Waist: 34"
Hip: undefined but 42" approx.
Shoulder to waist: approx. 15"
Shoulder to bottom hem: 58"
Please note: These are vintage, preworn and/or preloved items. I do my best to list any issues, but signs of wear should be expected. Please feel free to contact me with any questions. I'm truly happy to help in any way possible and I'm always up for a chat. Any accessories shown, including crinolines, are for display only, not included unless otherwise stated.
