Vintage 1940s Black Rayon Dress with Criss Cross Bodice

The Black Velvet Emporium

1 Available

Black Vintage rayon 1940s dress. The skirt has wonderful pleating in front. The bodice is a different material but I believe still rayon, and has a vaguely criss cross neckline with embroidery all round. One snap keeps the front together at just about bust level. There are no other closures. This as probably originally part of a set with a matching small jacket or outer blouse. Whatever piece that was is no longer with us, sadly.
Label reads: none.

Excellent to just good vintage condition. The skirt is the excellent part. It maybe needs a few seams shored up but that's about it. The bodice has more issues. It was dyed, and not well, at some point, to this dark gray, and the color is quite uneven. There are small holes, nothing threatening its stability ( though maybe the seams at the armpits are getting a bit loose) but holes. The largest about pea sized. One could easily cover it with a jacket or sweater as originally intended, or perhaps rebuild it. This is priced accordingly for the skirt alone and is sold as is.

Measurements when lying flat:
Armpit to armpit across bust: 41" when snapped shut
Waist: 40"
Hips: 50"
Shoulder to waist: 17.5"
Shoulder to bottom hem: 44"

Please note: These are vintage, preworn and/or preloved items. I do my best to list any issues, but signs of wear should be expected. Please feel free to contact me with any questions. I'm truly happy to help in any way possible and I'm always up for a chat. Any accessories shown, including crinolines, are for display only, not included unless otherwise stated.
