Vintage 1950s Black Satin Cocktail Dress With Smocking

The Black Velvet Emporium

Beyond beautiful black dress from the 1950s. The silkiest, softest liquid satin. Like a raven's wing. In the right light there's a hint of a blue sheen even, its that black. There is decorative smocking down one thigh starting at the hip which gives it a swagged feel along that leg. Metal zipper up the back. I'd say medium to large sized. No label. I believe its a rayon satin but a very fine one.

Excellent to great vintage condition. Overall this dress is really in good condition apart from some tiny dings to the satin. The big issue though is the top of the smocking portion. It will need to be rebuilt by someone with far more seamstress skills than I. Starting at about the side seam on the left side it seems like someone tried to alter it and just...didn't get it right. I'm honestly not sure why except that there is a one inch tear along the waist and perhaps they were trying to bury it in a new waist seam. There are much better ways to repair a tear however, and I do believe this could be stunning if someone with skill handled it. That's not me unfortunately, my skills are mediocre at best. Thus its priced accordingly and as is. You'll probably wnat to take a look at the bottom hem too as there's some spots of fading there that could be hemmed up a bit and disappear.

I do my utmost best to list any issues, but signs of wear should be expected, and there are occasionally small things I won't deem worthy of note.
